Following proposals to expand the existing prison site, a complete upgrade of the
existing electrical infrastructure was required.

The project comprised the renewal of the Regional Electricity Company’s High Voltage Ring Main Unit and the installation of new HV Switchgear, 800 kVA 11,000 volt / 400 volt transformer, 800 kVA backup generator and Low Voltage Switchboard.

The project provided many challenges, both technical and operational. Upgrading the electrical infrastructure to a fully operational 620 place prison required careful planning and sequencing of the works, ensuring critical systems are maintained and shut down periods where minimised.
